What Counts as a Water Heater Emergency?

Give us a call even if you’re not sure whether it’s an emergency. We can help figure out the problem and how soon it needs to be addressed. Here are some situations when you should call us right away because they need same-day attention.

Leaking Water or Flooding

A leaking water heater can cause thousands of dollars in water damage very quickly. If you see water pooling around your unit, shut off the cold water supply valve and the gas or electric supply, then call us immediately.

No Hot Water

If you have no hot water at all and basic checks (pilot light, breaker) have not solved it, this is an emergency for any household with kids, elderly residents, or medical needs. We treat no-hot-water calls as urgent.

Gas Smell Near the Water Heater

This is a safety emergency. Get out of the building, call your gas company (SoCalGas or PG&E) to report the leak, then call us. A gas smell near the water heater usually means a connection leak or a failed valve.

Making Sounds and Noises

Loud banging is usually sediment. Hissing often means steam or pressure building inside the tank. Either way, do not ignore it. A pressure buildup in a failing tank can become dangerous.

Visible Rust or Cracks on the Tank

If you can see corrosion cracks or significant rust on the outside of the tank body, especially near the bottom, the tank is likely failing from within. You need a water heater replacement right away.

What to Do While You Wait for Us

Here’s what to do if there’s a water heater emergency:

  • Turn off the cold water supply valve above the water heater (usually a handle or gate valve on the cold inlet pipe)
  • For gas: Turn the gas control valve to the Pilot or Off position, then close the main gas shutoff on the gas line
  • For electric: Flip the breaker for the water heater to the off position
  • If there’s water on the floor, do not step in it near an electric heater until the power is confirmed off
  • If you smell gas, leave the house before doing anything else and call the gas company

Why We Never Charge After-Hours Fees

Most plumbers and HVAC companies charge 50% to 100% more for evening, weekend, or holiday calls. We do not. We decided a long time ago that our customers should not have to pay more if their water heater fails on a Friday night.

Our technicians are on-call and staffed for 24/7 response, so there’s no overtime premium charge. It’s the same flat rate all the time, even forcommercial water heater services

Certified Emergency Repair: Bradford White and Noritz

If you have a Bradford White tank water heater or a Noritz tankless unit that just failed, you want a certified tech on-site, not a general plumber guessing at parts.

We carry Bradford White parts and Noritz parts on our trucks. Our techs are certified on both brands. If your unit is repairable, we’ll fix it correctly with parts that maintain your manufacturer warranty. If it’s not repairable, we carry replacement units and can often complete a same-day installation.

Where We Respond to Emergencies

We cover all of Southern California (Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange County, San Diego, Inland Empire, Santa Barbara) and Northern California (Bay Area, Sacramento area, Central Valley). If you’re not sure whether we cover your area, call. Chances are we do.
